Checklist for first time parents

During the course of your pregnancy, you will receive many advices from people around you.. With the loads of information, sometimes first time parents might be confused about what to do / what to buy..

Many of us might be all geared up upon discovering the pregnancy and started shopping spree even before the gender is known! Some of us might wait till second trimester onwards (that's where you are more energetic and enjoy the pregnancy more) to do more research..

We understand there are lots of things to prepare for the arrival of your precious prince/ princess! Hence, Oceano Kidz has consolidated a list of items that you should prepare minimally!

For your Prince's/ Princess' Room

  • Baby’s Cot, mattress, swaddle blanket
  • Clothes (onesies, tie-front kimonos etc)
  • Mittens, bootees
  • Diapers
  • Cotton buds, cotton balls
  • Sterile cotton swabs for umbilical cord
  • Wet wipes
  • Handkerchief
  • Nail clippers
  • Cream to prevent nappy rash
  • Oil for wind (you know the one we grow up with??)
  • Thermometer (Temporal artery via infrared/ ear)
  • Active mat/ playmat
  • Wind-up mobiles/ Merry-go-round (optional)
  • Changing table (optional)
  • Chest of Drawers (optional)
  • Pacifiers (optional)
  • Changing mat (optional)
  • Essential oil for massage (optional)
  • Pyjamas (optional)
  • Baby monitor (optional)

Baby Bathtime

  • Soft bath towel
  • Baby bath tub
  • Bath sponge/ handkerchiefs
  • Baby soap/ bath lotion, baby shampoo
  • A jug for cool boiled water

Feeding Baby

  • Milk bottles & small sized teats (you need a variety of teats when training your baby for bottle feeding)
  • Bottle scrub brush
  • Warmer cum carrier bag
  • Breast pumps ( double electric is recommended)
  • 6-Bottle Electric Steam Steriliser
  • Milk storage bags/ containers
  • Nursing bra
  • Breast pads
  • Maternity Dress/ Pyjamas with front opening for breast feeding
  • Feeding cushion (optional)


  • Stroller/pram
  • Baby carrier
  • Diaper bag
  • Car seat and mirror (so that you can view your baby with your rear mirror)
  • Playpen/ baby gym
  • Rattle
  • Rubber protectors
  • Bouncer (optional)
  • Highchair (optional)
  • Stairgates (optional)

For mummies to note:

  • Breast cream (you may also try spreading your milk on your nipples to heal cracked nipples)
  • Disposable panties
  • Sanitary pads
  • Bedroom slippers/ socks
  • Electric flask (one that can maintain a designated temperature)

This is not an exhaustive list as many of us might have different needs.. You may add on/ delete items which you don't need.. Hope you find this useful!!!
